Around the Bend (for Cello & Piano)

Cello,Piano - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1280306 Composed by Brian Strohmetz. Chamber,Classical,Contemporary. Score and part. 46 pages. Brian Strohmetz #871769. Published by Brian Strohmetz (A0.1280306). Around the Bend is a journey of tranquility, adventure, and discovery down a section of the Monocacy Creek in Bethlehem, PA. The first section of the music that appears throughout the piece is a simple melody that is reminiscent of a simple art song. It represents the river flowing along peacefully on a beautiful day. Occasionally, we come across an area where the water hits a small obstacle that causes the water to change its path and speed. We hear this as violent 16th note interruptions in the music. The river then returns to its natural flow and pace. Further along we encounter a small waterfall area with rapids and obstacles. The music cascades and has a rhythmic drive representing the rapids and the swift moving waters. After we have traversed the rapids, we return to the calm waters of the river as it continuously flows peacefully. The next portion of our journey is inspired by a specific and unique section of the Monocacy, where we find the hidden ivy. Trees surround the creek. When looking into them, at a certain angle, you will find a tree covered in ivy hidden amongst the other trees. When we reach this point in our journey, the music starts off mysteriously as though looking through the trees. When we find the hidden ivy, we are greeted by a majestic melody that reflects this hidden beauty. The piano plays a rising arpeggio repeatedly, reflecting the ivyâs goal to grow higher and closer to the sky. Once we pass the ivy, we return to the peacefully flowing river. We approach a bend in the river that we cannot see beyond. There is a bit of trepidation, but as we start to go around the bend, everything ends peacefully, and we know everything will be fine. The river will keep moving and we will survive. For Cello & Piano.

SATB choir divisi (a cappella), oboe - Medium - Digital Download SKU: MQ.50-1429-E Composed by Sandra Peter. With oboe. Christmas, Hanging of the Green. 8 pages. MorningStar Music Publishers - Digital Sheet Music #50-1429-E. Published by MorningStar Music Publishers - Digital Sheet Music (MQ.50-1429-E). Winds Through the Olive Trees was widely sung in many Sunday school programs early in the 20th century. This arrangement will bring back some of those memories, as the tune is set here for adult voices and oboe. The simple Austrian carolStill, Still, Still is woven into the piece to further create a sense of peace and calm as one contemplates the setting of the birth of Christ. The arrangement was written for Christmas at Luther College 2008. Parts for Oboe (Violin, Flute) and Clarinet in B-flat are included in the choral score.

Choral Choir (TTBB) - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1270160 By Arlo Guthrie. By Arlo Guthrie. Arranged by Craig Hanson. A Cappella,Comedy,Folk. Octavo. 6 pages. Edition Craig Hanson #862589. Published by Edition Craig Hanson (A0.1270160). For TTBB chorus a cappella and solo voice. As performed by Arlo Guthrie.Wanna hear something? You know that Indians never ate clams. They didn't have linguini! And so what happened was that clams was allowed to grow unmolested in the coastal waters of America for millions of years. And they got big, and I ain't talking about clams in general, I'm talking about each clam! Individually. I mean each one was a couple of million years old or older. So imagine they could have got bigger than this whole room. And when they get that big, God gives them little feet so that they could walk around easier. And when they get feet, they get dangerous. I'm talking about real dangerous. I ain't talking about sitting under the water waiting for you. I'm talking about coming after you.Imagine being on one of them boats coming over to discover America, like Columbus or something, standing there at night on watch, everyone else is either drunk or asleep. And you're watching for America and the boat's going up and down. And you don't like it anyhow but you gotta stand there and watch, for what? Only he knows, and he ain't watching. You hear the waves lapping against the side of the ship. The moon is going behind the clouds. You hear the pitter patter of little footprints on deck. âIs that you kids?â It ain't! My god! It's this humongous, giant clam!Imagine those little feet coming on deck. A clam twice the size of the ship. Feet first. You're standing there shivering with fear, you grab one of these. This is a belaying pin. They used to have these stuck in the holes all around the ship⦠You probably didn't know what this is for; you probably had an idea, but you were wrong. They used to have these stuck in the holes all along the sides of the ship, everywhere. You wouldn't know what this is for unless you was that guy that night.I mean, you'd grab this out of the hole, run on over there, bam bam on them little feet! Back into the ocean would go a hurt, but not defeated, humongous, giant clam. Ready to strike again when opportunity was better. You know not even the coastal villages was safe from them big clams. You know them big clams had an inland range of about 15 miles. Think of that. I mean our early pioneers and the settlers built little houses all up and down the coast you know. A little inland and stuff like that and they didn't have houses like we got now, with bathrooms and stuff. They built little privies out back. And late at night, maybe a kid would have to go, and he'd go stomping out there in the moonlight. And all they'd hear for miles around...(loud clap/belch).... One less kid for America. One more smiling, smurking, humongous, giant clam.So Americans built forts. Them forts --you knowâthem pictures of them forts with the wooden points all around. You probably thought them points was for Indians but that's stupid! 'Cause Indians know about doors. But clams didn't. Even if a clam knew about a door, so what? A clam couldn't fit in a door. I mean, he'd come stomping up to a fort at night, put them feet on them points, jump back crying, tears coming out of them everywhere. But Americans couldn't live in forts forever. You couldn't just build one big fort around America. How would you go to the beach? So what they did was they formed groups of people. I mean they had groups of people all up and down the coast form these little alliances. Like up North it was call the Clamshell Alliance. And farther down South it was called the Catfish Alliance. They had these Alliances all up and down the coast defending themselves against these threatening monsters. These humongous giant clams. Andt hey'd go out there, if there was maybe fifteen of them they'd be singing songs in fifteen part harmony. And when one part disappeared, that's how they knew where the clam would be.Which is why Americans only sing in four part harmony to this very day. That proved to be too dangerous. See, what they did was they'd be singing these songs called Clam Chanties, and they'd have these big spears called clampoons. And they'd be walking up and down the beach and the method they eventually devised where they'd have this guy, the most strongest heavy duty true blue American, courageous type dude they could find and they'd have him out there walking up and down the beach by himself with other chicken dudes hiding behind the sand dunes somewhere. He'd be singing the verses. They'd be singing the chorus, and clams would hear 'em. And clams hate music. So clams would come out of the water and they'd come after this one guy. And all you'd see pretty soon was flying all over the sand flying up and down the beach manmanclamclammanmanclam manclamclamman up and down the beach going this way and that way up the hills in the water out of the water behind the trees everywhere. Finally the man would jump over a big sand dune, roll over the side, the clam would come over the dune, fall in the hole and fourteen guys would come out there and stab the shit out of him with their clampoons. That's the way it was. That was one way to deal with them. The other way was to weld two clams together. [I don't believe it. I'm losing it. Hey. What can you do. Another night shot to hell.] Hey, this was serious back then. This was very serious. I mean these songs now are just piddly folk songs. But back then these songs were controversial. These was radical, almost revolutionary songs. Because times was different and clams was a threat to America. That's right. So we want to sing this song tonight about the one last... You see what they did was there was one man, he was one of these men, his name will always be remembered, his name was Reuben Clamzo, and he was one of the last great clam men there ever was. He stuck the last clam stab. The last clampoon into the last clam that was ever seen on this continent. Knowing he would be out of work in an hour. He did it anyway so that you and me could go to the beach in relative safety. That's right. Made America safe for the likes of you and me. And so we sing this song in his memory. He went into whaling like most of them guys did and he got out of that, when he died. You know, clams was much more dangerous than whales. Clams can run in the water, on the water or on the ground, and they are so big sometimes that they can jump and they can spread their kinda shells and kinda almost fly like one of them flying squirrels. You could be standing there thinking that your perfectly safe and all of a sudden whop.... That's true... And so this is the song of this guy by the name of Reuben Clamzo and the song takes place right after he stabbed this clam and the clam was, going through this kinda death dance over on the side somewhere. The song starts there and he goes into whaling and takes you through the next...I sing the part of the guy on the beach by himself. I go like this: Poor old Reuben Clamzo and you go Clamzo Boys Clamzo. That's the part of the fourteen chicken dudes over on the other side. That's what they used to sing. They'd be calling these clams out of the water. Like taunting them making fun of them. Clams would get real mad and come out. Here we go. I want you to sing it in case you ever have an occasion to join such an alliance. You know some of these alliances are still around. Still defending America against things like them clams. If you ever wants to join one, now you have some historic background. So you know where these guys are coming from. It's not just some 60's movement or something, these things go back a long time.Notice the distinction you're going to have to make now between the first and easy Clamzo Boys Clamzo and the more complicated Clamzo Me Boys Clamzo. Stay serious! Folk songs are serious. That's what Pete Seeger told me. Arlo I only want to tell you one thing... Folk songs are serious. I said right. Let's do it in C for Clam...Iet's do it in B... For boy that's a big clam... Iet' s do it in G for Gee, I hope that big clam don't see me. Let's do it in F... For â¦he sees me. Let's do it back in A...for a clam is coming. Better get this song done quick. The Story of Reuben Clamzo and His Strange Daughter in the Key of A.

Flute Trio - Fairy Tales

Woodwind Ensemble,Woodwind Trio Flute - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.767564 Composed by Mike Lyons. 20th Century,Children,Contemporary. 57 pages. Lyons Music Services #6035581. Published by Lyons Music Services (A0.767564). This is a highly programmatic piece for flute trio, loosely based around one of the Grimm Brothersâ Fairy Tales Hansel and Gretel. The first movement depicts the children wandering off into the dark forest, initially surrounded by twittering birds and sunlight, but as the movement progresses, the music becomes darker. As the light fades, the children strew breadcrumbs to guide their way out of the forest when they decide to return to the village. At letter C, the mysterious chords suggest something disturbing, perhaps trees with scare faces or giant spiderwebs. At D, the change to 3/4 time suggests the children are anxious and scurrying through the trees, feeling scared, with the use of flutter tonguing suggesting their shivers of fear. Finally, out of breath, they reach the dark clearing with the Gingerbread house. The second movement describes the witchâs Gingerbread house. The top line shows the houseâs roof, the middle line shows the windows and the third line marks out the porch and the front door. The children wonder at the strange building and chatter to each other as they explore it, perhaps nibbling here and there. The motif that describes the shape of the house appears from time to time throughout this section as they explore it from different angles. At letter D, after the G.P., the children begin to sense that they are not alone in the house. The low trill on the third flute is meant to be a breathy whisper (it doesnât matter if the notes fail in performance for this reason) as the witch mutters under her breath. She attempts to pounce on the children and force them into her oven, but they are too fast for her. They trick her into the oven and slam the door shut (Bar before F.) They run from the clearing, not caring if they are going in the right direction. They glance back - once catching sight of the Gingerbread house which has begun to collapse in on itself - before they finally stop for breath as night begins to fall and they find a safe place to sleep (Lento before G.) The third movement sees our young heroes looking for the trail of breadcrumbs to take them back to the village. They are plodding through the deep forest, accompanied once more by the birds. Occasionally they find a crumb or two, but the birds have eaten most of them. They eventually manage to backtrack to the village (the music reflects this as itâs a retrograde of some of the music from movement 1) and they finally reach the village where they are greeted with a party for having killed the witch and returned safely home. This music is in a âpastoral style (6/8) and fades away as â¦they all lived happily ever after.

The trees told the flowers hiding there by the hilltop. The clouds told the moon that shone above. So angry yet blue when they found out that youAnd your heart had another love. The brook became angry and changed to a river, rushing so madly along. The soft summer breeze that played tag with the trees, became so wild and so strong. The bashful white flowers hiding there by the hilltop,Grew dark when the rain came pouring down.Their hearts couldn't hide all the tears that were cried,And had carpeted upon the ground. The storm has gone over, there'll be sunshine again. The chains that held me are now gone. The trees wave hello as I stand here below,And the brook sings the sweetest song. The bashful white flowers are again by the hill-top.The sun and the moon are still my friends.I promise there'll be no more heartaches for me,Till I fall in love again.

Brass Ensemble Euphonium,Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1273548 Composed by Stanley Figaro. 21st Century,Chamber,Classical,Contemporary. Score and Parts. 89 pages. Stanley Figaro Music #865681. Published by Stanley Figaro Music (A0.1273548). Suite for Brasswinds is an original work in three movements written for 3 trumpets, 2 horns, 2 trombones, euphonium and tuba. The three movements, as their titles suggests, are based off of plant life I often saw through my travels along the eastern sea board from Florida up to New York.  Blooming Blossoms is the slow opening and bursting of buds than can be beatiful and yet strangely uncommon to behold. Weeping Willow imbues the gently swaying branches of the tree, calmly blowing in the melancholy swamps. Dancing Vines is a march of the vines themselves as they climb there way through the trees and wrap around any and all trees they can cover.

Published by Louise du Toit (A0.1138387). Bulbul the Bird is the first in a series of fifteen original contemporary compositions for piano, titled 15 Animal Compositions for Piano and created to musically describe the movement and habits of specific wildlife creatures. From music notes to words: Bulbul the bird leaps from one branch to another, searching for sunlight through the leaves of the trees. The warm sunrays on his beautiful body delight him when he sits quietly for a moment, every now and then fluttering his colorful wings and feathers as a sign of satisfaction. A heavy feathery fellow joins him for a few fleeting moments of dialogue before flying off to another acacia tree, leaving Bulbul to continue his morning exercises as he reaches for the highest branches, in an effort to be closer to the African sun..

Published by Niska Music Publishing (A0.1073968). The most Impressionistic of Opus 3, the cathedral in this instance is the forest rather than the sunken one from Debussyâs prelude. The canopy of the trees is the vaulted ceiling and the trunks serve as the columns. As one walks down the colonnade, the spaces between the trees serve as windows onto the magnificence of nature. From a musical standpoint, the thick, rich chords of the right hand create a feeling of majesty and awe broken by the melismatic figures of the wind through the boughs. Once again, it is of great importance to balance the chords to bring forth the melody.

Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1008091 Composed by Connie Pwll Walck Tyler. Contemporary,Spiritual. Octavo. 12 pages. Connie Tyler #4833171. Published by Connie Tyler (A0.1008091). The Tree Song is one of many songs from the novel The Earth Woman Tree Woman Quartet. This piece for two cellos, a viola and a double bass, with SATB choir evokes the deep voice of the tree. The choral part is not difficult, but the strings are challenging. The string parts can be played on a synthesizer. Contact Connie at connie@deephum for help with this. The song is short, two and half minutes and might be performed with some of the other songs from the book. Some of the songs can be found on the website www.earthwomantreewoman.com. The words are: Waves of things of forms I am exist in dreams within me,flow through the sap of trees to come and leaves to come, falling, decaying, the soil I am, a nutrient for things living, eating the earth, water and sun, fruit I become, feeding the unrooted beings ever I'm giving. And then I am free.I stretch my wings and fling myself into the air.I sing, I call. My joy is beyond any earthly care. The snap of the jaws of the four-legged one is only a moment of painfor I am living again with a diff'rent name. And when this life's done the worms I become and pass to the earth to gain my rebirth. Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.787250 Composed by Greg Bartholomew. Concert,Contemporary,Folk,Patriotic,Standards. Octavo. 16 pages. Burke & Bagley #49747. Published by Burke & Bagley (A0.787250). SONG OF THE MOUNTAINS is a setting for mixed (SSAATB) choir with piano accompaniment of text adapted from prose by American naturalist John Muir (1838-1914). Commissioned for the Combined Choirs of St. Joseph's School, Seattle, directed by Rick Boyle, who premiered the piece at Benaroya Hall's Nordstrom Recital Hall on May 6, 2004, in the second annual New Works New Hope concert for the benefit of Gilda's Club Seattle. The piece was revised in 2007 and the premiere of the revised score was given on November 16, 2007, by the Queens College Chorus, Cindy Bell conducting, at the Aaron Copland School of Music in New York. It was selected by the Portland Vocal Consort for their 2013 Best of the Northwest program. Duration ca. 6 minutes. Conductor Cindy Bell says, Driven by a refreshing text of American naturalist John Muir, Bartholomew has created an accessible work that flows easily through both key and meter changes, and features expressive, lyric melodies contrasted by exciting rhythmic drive. Song of the Mountains is almost cantata-like, or through-composed, in that each line of Muir's text receives equal and interesting interpretation. Occasional use of the triplet rhythm creates both a relaxing effect (grasses cease waving) and driving sense of forward motion (Vibrating!). Effective use of dynamics and interweaving of choral parts make for each section having a musical life of its own. Follow along in the score as you listen to a performance in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5VVW1Ah6kqE SONG OF THE MOUNTAINS Climb the mountains and get their good tidings. Nature's peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees. The winds will blow their freshness into you, and the storms their energy, while cares drop off like autumn leaves. Here is calm so deep, grasses cease waving. Everything in wild nature fits into us, as if truly part and parent of us. The sun shines not on us but in us. The rivers flow not past, but through us, thrilling, tingling, vibrating every fiber and cell of the substance of our bodies, Making them glide and sing. The trees wave and the flowers bloom in our bodies as in our souls, and every bird song, wind song, and tremendous storm song of the rocks in the heart of the mountain, is our song, our very own, and sings our love.

Piano Solo - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1300078 By Bee Gees. By Barry Gibb and Robin Gibb. Arranged by Timothy Stapay. Country,Disco,Film/TV,Rock,Singer/Songwriter. Score. 4 pages. Timothy Stapay #889845. Published by Timothy Stapay (A0.1300078). How Can You Mend a Broken Heart is a song released by the Bee Gees in 1971. It was written by Barry and Robin Gibb and was the first single on the group's 1971 album Trafalgar. It was their first US No. 1 single and also reached No. 1 in Cashbox magazine for two weeks. The Bee Gees were a musical group formed in 1958 by brothers Barry, Robin, and Maurice Gibb. The trio were especially successful in popular music in the late 1960s and early 1970s, and later as prominent performers in the disco music era in the mid- to late 1970s. The group sang recognisable three-part tight harmonies: Robin's clear vibrato lead vocals were a hallmark of their earlier hits, while Barry's R&B falsetto became their signature sound during the mid- to late 1970s and 1980s. The group wrote all their own original material, as well as writing and producing several major hits for other artists, and are regarded as one of the most important and influential acts in pop-music history. Bee Gees Lyrics:How Can You Mend A Broken Heart?I can think of younger days when living for my lifeWas everything a man could want to doI could never see tomorrowBut I was never told about the sorrowsAnd, how can you mend a broken heart? How can you stop the rain from falling down? How can you stop the sun from shining? What makes the world go 'round? How can you mend this broken man?How can a loser ever win? Please help me mend my broken heart and let me live againI can still feel the breeze that rustles through the treesAnd misty memories of days gone byWe could never see tomorrowNo one said a word about the sorrowAnd how can you mend a broken heart? How can you stop the rain from falling down? How can you stop the sun from shining? What makes the world go 'round? And how can you mend this broken man?How can a loser ever win? Please help me mend my broken heart and let me live againLa la la la la la, la la la laLa la la la la la, la la la laPlease help me mend my broken heart and let me live againDa da da daDa da da da, da da da da da, da.

Woodwind Ensemble - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.596510 Composed by Juan MarÃa Solare. 20th Century,Instructional,Jazz,World. 11 pages. Juan Maria Solare #3368739. Published by Juan Maria Solare (A0.596510). Vorbeiziehende Bäume [Trees passing by] is a piece for 2 saxophones where the Southamerican origin of the composer clearly arises to the surface: an original metamorphosis of the tango argentino flirting with jazz. Vorbeiziehende Bäume is part of a set of eleven pieces for saxophone duo (all others will be uploaded soon) called Eisenbahn (Railroad). All eleven pieces have titles related to the railway. If you are wondering why a German title, the reason is quite simple: that's where the composer lives. In this edition, Vorbeiziehende Bäume is offered in four instrumental combinations: - 2 saxophones (2 Tenor or 2 Alto) - Alto Sax + Tenor Sax - 2 Baritone Sax - Bb Clarinet + Tenor Sax No parts are needed: scores are already transposed (practice showed that it is much efficient to read this piece from the score, seeing also the partner's part). The piece, that is dedicated to Albanian clarinetist Ibrahim Gunbardhi, has been performed by him together with Mr. Thomas Sauer. Here is a rehearsal: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y0_6xIGHRb0 The composer's description on the score reflects an experience that most of us had: Imagine you are on a train. You see different landscapes through the window. But somehow it's always the same.
